Hi Webmasters: I have been online a few years and still can not understand clearly about how SEO works. I write at least 3 articles to post on my blog for one site and submit to 7 social bookmarking sites. At the same time write 3 different articles to submit to about 30 article directories for this site. Each article directory I will have 3 links multiply by 30 = 90 links. However, this site does not get indexed for some keywords. My site is about 2 years old. -------- I also have another site that I use the same method and write ONLY 1 article a month and do the same. This site gets good traffic for some keywords than that other site that I write 3 articles monthly. --------- Why is that? I do not understand how SEO works. Please advice. by "get indexed" i assume you mean "rank" for certain keywords, well it's very simple the link building you are doing is not enough to rank the first site since those keywords must be too competitive and just articles links will not be enough to move your rankings up, you need to step up your game and build links from higher quality sites, relevant to your niche.
It also depends on the competition and the industry you are working in ..its easy to crack good positions for low competition industry when compare to high competition industry Else than that the quality and variety of backlinks also matter...don't just do article submission and bookmarking do blog commenting and forum submission too
Firstly, I suggest you to install google.com/analytics and google.com/webmaster to check properly on your visitor stats and keywords that is referring you traffic. You need to clear one point here that submitting same article to multiple directories can marked as spamming or duplicate contents. Search engine bots will only index first article directory that they crawled with your article. The rest will marked as duplicate content and you won't get credit for that. In simple words, you are just wasting your time submitting same article to multiple directories. If you want to submit to 30 article directories, make sure you have 30 unique articles to get full benefits of it. Also, don't concentrate on one type of link building method like article directory or social bookmarking. Try to get more backlinks from unique IP and unique domains from relevant sites with anchored keyword. It will help you rank well for those keywords in search engine.
