After analyzing the performance of this tool over a period of time and what it has come to (which i believe should be the end) i have written an article pertaining to this tool. i wrote this article after seeing some of the strongest site showing ps 0.5 and than not having the ability to refresh unless you pay a good amount every month read the article at Genuine Paid Directory Blog
It is sort of disappointing. The quote Slashdot and USA Today on the front page, and then you don't get nearly what you would expect. And then they charge $39/month. Not for me.
I just fail to understand whats all the hype about all these webmaster tools like PS and other tools that still use alexa which has been proven is dependent on users with alexa toolbar only. Why come up and keep making such silly tools and getting fooled into using such tools?
Alexa is far from perfect, but for webmaster related sites, directories, etc., it's the best metric we have for traffic.
Agreed alexa is far better and relaible tool for any site. The another good thing is that it is free and u can use as u like.
Sorry but i had to post this trying to get some answers maybe as to why alexa shows nothing of this traffic www.h-log.com got over 6K uniques alone this month : http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?q=h-log.com&url=h-log.com/ Not all the webmasters have alexa installed, my pc wont even let alexa to be installed in the first place. So thats 1 visitor whose stats are not taken into consideration by alexa. Cheers
Must be a lot of webmasters are also NASCAR fans - the Alexa graph is pretty representative of what I would expect; the Daytona 500 is in February, it's the biggest race of the season - nice spike in traffic there. There's also a race almost every Sunday and it looks like a jump in traffic is reflected there as well. It may not be the best metric we have, but it can give an indication of traffic that a site receives.
very good point CReed. Your example with NASCAR opens up many other scenarios people can check out (NFL, movie sites, celebrity sites , etc ... )
You are right Smub. From the past few days (more than a week), I was trying to check the PS of my directory and every time it pulled wrong data. (Pathatic) If it cant show accurate for free, what the use of it ?? Their so called free offer of checking result is just a bullshit.
and the bad thing is they miss like key things ... so ur PS is instead of being a 5.5 be a 5 or 4.5 than now it is a 0.5 !!! i didn't kno the script could be timed out this long
It always gives me different results and thats why I don't understand why some people think that it is a good way to judge your website, considering it can even give a correct number!
It's for the lack of anything better out there when it comes to judging a site by a number. It's also all about promotion. Someone measures sites by it and everyone else follows blindly. Big mistake IMO.
I think the problem is that google blocked alot of the automated queries that tool was making so now it has nothing to go on. http://fantomaster.com/fantomNews/archives/2005/04/21/seomoz-tools-blocked-by-google/
It started out as linkbait and then turned into membership bait for SEOMoz. Nobody I know with intermediate or advanced SEO knowledge takes it seriously or uses it. Some may use it as a selling point for their directories like Alexa and PR, but the smarter and more educated people get, the less there will be usage of the t(f)ool.
absolutely! I wish to ask some questions to DP members who proudly say that their site is PS5.5~6~6.5? What does it denote? any thing unique? It is depends upon on some API's and other factors which are worst to follow! Alexa-not an reliable source!(only 20% may be correct) E.g-the best example is Alive directory which has a rank of 16000 which is less than Aviva's rank of 8000.(Aviva's rank is higher as it has alexa thumbnail on its main page while Alive has none, even though Alive would have more visitors than Aviva) .gov and .edu links- How one can judge about directory because of these links as they do not bring any traffic and also they do not recommend these websites! Wikipedia- easily a link can be added in an unnoticed article! Dmoz- it only has sites that are created before 2002 or before ,they are not frequently updating and not to mention about a lot of corruption there and lack of editors! del.icio.us-could be easily bookmarked by us! (only if is saved by a large no of people say 1000,then only the site is good) Google's PR-not an very reliable source to depend upon as there are some good sites which have less PR and vice versa The other factors like age of domain, yahoo back links tell us some truth as unlike the above factors!
