I'm curious how many folks out there are using Mambo CMS for their site. In the global configuration, you have a Global Meta Tag and Global Site Keywords. When setting up an individual content page, you have options to set Meta info such as keywords and title. Adding items in here just ammends the current meta tags making for a long title tag and even longer list of meta keywords. What's the best practice with regards to Meta tags when using Mambo? TIA Chris
Yes me too.I'm setting up a new site (if my host ever gets his act together )and I'm considering Mambo.
I happened to speak with a well regarded Mambo tech today who was helping with my new site. He has discussed this very issue with a high priced SEO professional for Mambo. He recommends not touching the Meta tags in the specific content pages. During the implementation of my redesign, I'm going to leave out the Meta tags based upon his recommendation. He also suggested a layout where your main menu is on the right. This way, the robots see your content first. In my case, my menu is in the top nav -- but I figured I'd pass along what I had found out. I also use SEF advanced for clean descriptive URL's. -Chris
Thankyou for the info cmeinck.Thats very helpful.I will bear that in mind while building my new site.
This will be a major departure from what I was doing before -- which was adding meta keywords and meta description on each page. As it was put to me, Google is concerned with the content more so... Makes sense.. with your global keywords -- then having another set of page keywords, it's too long of a list. That can't be good. We'll see.. Good luck. Chris
He might be high priced, but on that advice he is not high worth There are plenty of ways to move the position in the code without moving it on the page, and waht is so wrong with your nav structure being picked up? if your site is categories properly, your nav words are going to be relevant keywords. Forget the metas? hmm odd as some search engines reference these (well the description anyhow).
Thanx cmeinck and Old welsh guy for your opinion. I would definitely keep it in mind while making my site.
I was going to go between the two.Page title yes and description no.Could this be the best way to go?I guess it could just be experimenting when the site is listed.
The page title goes without saying though I mean titles MUST be different for each page on your site.
I think he was suggesting that you're global meta tags are sufficient. In Mambo, you can add additonal meta keywords for a specific page. However, the end result will who your global keywords followed by your additional keywords. Not sure if this is "too much". -Chris
