    Is there a point in placing keywords in a php forum. Which pages do the engines pick up?

    How do you mean which pages do the engines pickup.
    As far as a Search Engine is concerned, a forum is no different to any other webpage. It's just a bunch of html tags with some text.
    Have a hunt around for various keywords, and you'll find that these forums here rank pretty well.

    If the forum has free access to the posts (no login required) then SEs can index the keywords. It is even better if the forum has SE friendly links (this forum doesn't have).
