As willybfriendly said, while nofollow links don't help your URL rank at Google... if they drive targeted traffic to your site that converts then it's worth the time it takes to post the back link.
yeep ,though it did not help your serps at google cauz google don't count in those links but high PR website do bring traffic i think
OK, I have a major theory on this...and it kind of coincides with SEOmoz's web index data I think there is a direct correlation between nofollow links and ranking. I KNOW I KNOW...I am not saying go out and spam all the nofollow blogs. All I am saying is that I have a blog that I have purposely built nothing but nofollow links for and it is a PR2 and it ranks...I promise to fill you guys in on it once I am done with the expierement. Now, by nature a nofollow tag does exactly that- passes NO LINK JUICE but it still gets indexed and the destination page gets crawled...my theory is that the more links you have, the more times your site will be visited by say google bot...etc etc.... I am not trying to make a fool of myself here and I COMPLETELY understand how nofollow works. I build nothing but quality backlinks fo my clients and I dont TRY to get them nofollowed links. All I am saying is with the little expierment I run right now I am not too sure that the hell is going on. I think theykind of count as a tic, like 1000 nofollow links = 1 alright link or something...I don't know...I will post my blog post about it when it is finished
PS: They do help with traffic though, as everyone has already told you...so there can be some value in them anyway.
Having too few nofollow links relative to dofollow links on your site MAY set off alarm bells for search engines, especially Google’s, as a sign that you are engaging in buying links. This is increasingly being penalized by Google, which looks for a ‘natural’ ratio of nofollow and dofollow links. So in conclusion, I view dofollow links as a direct source of PageRank, and nofollow links as an indirect source of PageRank. Don’t ignore nofollow links, don’t throw the baby out with the bath water!
Nofollow links wouldn't give you any real SEO benefits, but they can still generate traffic to your site. That's the only benefit you can gain from that. Do other methods to build quality oneway-links through forum posting, link exchange, etc. if you want to improve your SERP.
although no nofollow links do pass page rank so who really knows! http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/type/googleseo/page/2/
No follow links are dead ends. They burn page rank, just like following a dead end street in a car burns gas. That does not mean that they get you anywhere though Google is very clear that they do not follow nofollow links, do not index them, and certainly do not use them in the ranking algo.
You're out of date - Google (through MC) now clearly states that dofollow links DO pass Page Rank - read through MC's blog post which I posted above
No, you are misunderstanding what you read. 1st the discussion is about nofollow links. (Not sure what a dofollow is) nofollow links are deadends. They bleed pagerank. Matt Cutts points this out so that folks don't think that they can "sculpt" pagerank - something that I always considered a wasted exercise anyway. The pagerank is "passed" into a blackhole where it is forever lost. Thus my analogy of a car on a dead end street. You burn gas, but it doesn't get you where you are going...
