Is there a SEO way to ease the transtion from a phpbb based website to a IPB forum?

or should I just change it and just wait out the time to re-index the new forum.

What do you mean by "ease the transition"?

i will be changing forums soon, but secided to leave the old forum up set to read only (tho post enabled in the admin forum) for a while until users get used to the new one.

i suppose from an seo point of view it will not mean a sudden drop in pages indexed, but my main reason for doing it this way was from a users point of view.

SEO point of view would be a sudden death of all the indexed pages.

How did you leave up the old forum? Don't they both share the index.php?
