It really depends on what role SEO has in the sales process?

Are they offering SEO as an upsell? Is it already part of the package? Do they need to know the benefits? Do they need to know how it works to sell it?

I've been involved in internal training processes before - I could help you out a little more if you shared more information about how SEO relates to the product.

Sorry, like most people - I'm at work right now, so it takes me a little longer than 1.5 seconds to respond to your request.

That aside - if your team is selling SEO as a service I would go over with the sales team (broadly):

1)What SEO is (and where is it implemented, on page vs. off page, pre vs. post design)
2)What the benefits are (you know these: increased ROI, traffic generation, keyword ranking, etc)
3)Time frame for customers (nothing instantaneous, setting expectations in terms of results)

I imagine the clients will be diverse in their fields, so having some good examples justifying the cost of your services is always a good idea - here is one:

If you profit 1000 dollars from each of your contract sales, and SEO costs 1000 dollars to implement, you'd only require two sales to cover the cost, and see the benefits. Assuming the marketing is successful and we bring you 1000 potential customers a month, in perspective the SEO services you're considering purchasing are well worth the money they cost.

Cost vs. Benefits analysis is an easy and effective way to sell SEO services, especially if the clients are looking to grow revenue through their websites.

we already discussed the revnue-cost= profit today , i would say it was best-short way to get into the customer mind .

about the pre vs. post design , what you mean by post design?,
do you think i should give them a time frame 3 to 10 months or less ! i dont know how clients are going to understand/accept this time.

i already have good examples to explain i just need to know how far i should go with them. more technical stuff or not. how to gurantee that they will be able to answer all the clients question with this training, i can go in depth but i dont think they will need it .i thought to use any seo slide that explains in general + using the google seo starter guide!!

I meant if SEO would be implemented at the design and website build stage, or whether you'd be working with the site that was already developed/designed. (Here we do development as well as design and marketing, so SEO can be involved at different stages - the earlier the better, obviously)

I wouldn't get too technical, unless the client has SEO experience or is more knowledgeable in which case you should have someone in mind with a little more experience to pass the difficult calls on to (or set up consulting calls with).

I think you should set expectations reasonably, time frame = specifics - and I wouldn't go there.

I would say: "normally we see results within a month, but in some cases it can take up to 6 months or more, depending on the keyword competition level, and your current web presence." if they want instant results, offer them your PPC services!

I believe if someone is calling you, they will have specific questions, but if you are reaching out, usually the topic trends to the more general. Anything unanswerable should be recorded, and then the rep can say - we'll ask the experts and we'll get back to you with a solid answer.

Starter guide and SEO slide should be sufficient...if they read them :).

Hope this was of some help.

If you don't know what seo is, then you should learn first.

if your sales team will be managing the accounts they close they will need to be able to know SEO very very well. They will need to be able to explain the who, what, where and why associated with their clients accounts.
