Here are my personal top 10 Do's and Don't's when it comes to SEO (Search engine optimization) DO: Constanty create unique and fresh content Create content for users, not for search engines Make sure internal links are useful and well structured Chase links from high profile sites Have faith in your product and service DON'T: Don't stuff unnecessary keywords in your title tags and page content Don't use lengthy URL's with unrecognizable parameters Don't create complex webs of navigation links Don't write sloppy text with spelling and grammatical errors Don't ignore W3C standards If you have any questions, ask here
Not entirely sure on "Do" 4. i.e chase links. If your content is good enough then the high profile sites will link to you anyway. Other than that pretty sound advice.
Really do people still think this? When a person makes a new website in a highly competing niche, say for example weight loss. With a site that's clearly not going to have anything original in content but for its arrangements of words. (unless you can think of a new way to lose fat but for eating right/less and exercising in some form) And then that persons site gets linked to by 10,000 directories and 10,000 similar websites without that person doing anything... and you have proof.... ill.. eat my laptop.... at the end of the day, you need to apply force to an object to make it move.... its website physics in summary, yes link build/chase links from high profile sites and low traffic sites it all adds up...
A new website in a competitive niche such as weight loss in not going to rank overnight or anytime soon via submitting to directories and buying/seeking easy links. I would expect for that topic that even with aggressive link building that it would take years to rank, and even when it did, the aggressive link building could be penalised via search engines. Therefore the best way is to create quality content that is likely to be linked to and seen as an weight loss "authority" site by the search engines.
The wording "chase" links makes it seem like you are spending a lot of time on high profile links, this isn't good. I think it is better expressed saying 'Go for fewer high profile links instead of massing PR0-1 backlinks"
I have a website with ZERO backlinks but it contains hundreds of pages. And guess what? Google has indexed my site and I am getting some fair traffic.
