Maybe I've just not run across this yet on other sites... but what I would like to see is an easy way to create sets of regionally targeted keyword phrases based on a baseline of keyword phrases. A keyword localization generator. I have found basic things like, type in keyword and it will kick it back with each state appended, etc, but nothing like what I really need.... For example, in the past I worked with a company that provides a local service and was growing into new markets. My locally targeted google ads had great responses so, with each new market we entered, I would take all my keyword phrases and repurpose them for that market, usually in the form of city name, state name, state abbreviation and city nicknames combinations. All done in an excel spreadsheet with city/state information manually entered and then automatically populated across all my key phrases. That works great if I am targeting only one city name, like Atlanta. But, since the service is local, down to the street level, I wanted to do the same for all the large city suburbs. So, around Atlanta I would create keyword phrases for towns like Marietta, Alpharetta, Peachtree City, etc, etc, etc. To find these 'towns' in markets outside of my knowledge sphere, I would both contact our rep in that city to get suburb town names, as well as do a radial zipcode search from a zip that was more or less central to the large city (Atlanta, Miami, Kansas City, etc.). All manual. To automate this, here's the features of the tool I envision (again, if it's 'out there', just point me the way!): Import or start with your base list of key phrases, not localized. Localization options: 1) Basic: User enters in <city name>, <state>, <state abbr.> and clicks to 'localize'. This would create a list with the possible combinations for localization. Can use just city, or city state, or city state abbr. The variations created are dependant on what's entered so if you do not want state keywords, only enter city and vice versa. Example output for all fields entered would start something like this (for Atlanta, GA): atlanta keyword1 atlanta ga keyword1 atlanta georgia keyword1 georgia keyword1 ga keyword1 (maybe optional for just abbr. + keyword output) .... and so on for all keywords. This is the 'easy' version that I do within a spreadsheet, no problem. 2) Advanced: Would like the same features above PLUS the ability to get all of the large suburb towns around that city within <N> radius and also use any nicknames for cities. Nicknames would be like Dallas Fort Worth, DFW, Dallas Fort-Worth; Twin Cities; GTA (Toronto); etc etc. So my output per city would include the keywords for 1) and... all the suburb city name, state, state abbr combinations and the city nickname + keyword combinations That's a start for the tool, and obviously not fully fleshed out and can be expanded (scope creep!). Since I took the time to write all that, Murphy's Law dictates that the first reply will start with "go here, this is exactly what you described". In any case, if such a tool is out there yet or not, I think it's a winner for some of the work I'm now doing via spreadsheet and zip code lookup engines. -Rick
I think I have created exactly what you are looking for. You can see it at Local Keyword Generator Building and maintaining local keyword lists by hand is a miserable task. Hence the need to create the Local Keyword Generator. I enter a US zip code & radius and it adds the location data to a keyword list. I also added a Permutator to manually add locations or combine keyword lists, options to create copies wrapped in match logic and prefix/suffix options to wrap with any text you need. Feel free to post any ideas you have for new features or any problems you run into.
That's really a great tool conciseusa. I needed something just like that several months ago and I'll probably need to use it soon.
conciseusa- That is definitely what I've been looking for. Great job. I've only ran test cases so far, but I can tell already that the <local city>+<keyword> results are just what I needed! Thanks.
There is another local Adwords and keyword generator that creates spreadsheets ready to upload to Yahoo and Google with creative/ad copy, landing pages, and display URLs. It is called Keyword Zip and you can check it out at www.coltonperry.com/keyword-generator/index.cfm
I have a new client that needed state names combined with keyword phases so I added some new features to my Local Keyword Generator: Include all USA State Names in Locations Check Box Include all USA State Abbreviations in Locations Check Box Check box to scrub " [ ] from entered keyword & permutator lists Fixed a bug that prevented the zip code removal feature from operating Others might find these new features handy so I giving the heads up.
