The DigitalPoint Keyword Tracker uses the Google API. This is why it does not violate Google's ToS. Automated rank checking tools which do not use the Google API can be considered a violation of the Google ToS.
not a bad list. Some things I would also omit include: webrings, and the yahoo directory (which for my $300 has done zilch for rankings).
That example isn't using uris, it's for text on a page. I think those are two different objects with different search rules. In text in a page, dashes and hyphens are often used to break words up, and underscores are never used to do that. So I could write about google-stock and, yes those are two words, google & stock. But I'd never write an article and hyphenate with google_stock. In programming and in general with uris the use of dashes, underscores or capitalization is used to help the reader understand what they're looking at and it's common to use either googleStock.php, google_stock.php, google+stock, googlestock.php and from my poking around, I found that it's more common to see underscores in uris then hyphens. Try Chicken Sandwiches and look at the matches. Absolutely there is a url there titled "chicken_sandwiches" which matches the plural. It's a common datbase technique to remove all spaces, punctuation, etc and store the stripped value to be searched. That's what the database programmer in me sees when I look at the search results that are matching on uris -- the matches are ignoring anything other then a..z. In fact, the 4th result on the chicken sandwiches search has no spaces in the uri. Now, since lots of times urls are in text on a page (such as forums) and there is no anchor text, just the uri, I can see how the uris with hyphens would match there. But in that case it's matching the text on someone elses page and not what I'd think one would want, a match to ones own site. These are just by observations of what I see on matches in *uris*.
Hopefully I am posting in the correct place. I don't know too much about linking...... but I do understand the concept. I just have a few questions... On my website, do I need to create a page just dedicated to links, and organize everything on that site? Does anyone have an example to a good link site, so that I can get a feel for what it should look like? I found someone who said she would help me, but its going to be $150 for 100 links. I figured before I started throwing around my money, I might learn a little more about this, to see if its something I could do on my own. Theres a lot of great info in this forum, and I plan to use most of it to get started. But, my problem is with actually trying to get everything set up so that I can exchange links.....
this article is really a must read. however, i realised that you somehow really need to shell out some big bucks to be able to raise your page ranking. imagine paying out $50.00 per month for a link on a PR7 site for 6months? and i'm guessing that's just for one and you need a number of them. and that's just one of the things to look for as content is the king! that's what your visitor are visiting for in the first place. tough job, eh!
