Too bad they were abused worse than methamphetamines were by narco dealers (try getting any real OTC medicine these days - you'll have to provide ID to get it).

And do you know why they're given more weight? It's because they're used to mark up and identify what the forthcoming segment (or block) of text is about.

Google actually recommends 160 characters; given that it's the lowest "safe number" to use, I'd actually go with that if possible just to be on the safe side. It'll also help to improve the density of whatever keywords are used as well.

Actually the description should describe what the page is about. It's the page's first chance to make a good impression to a search user, so it's best to make it count.

Actually the keywords meta tag is practically worthless these days given that it was abused worse than children who grow up in disfunctional families (and for the record, I was one of those children when I was growing up).

The H1, while best used as the page title, should be used to describe and identify what the page is about. It doesn't have to contain the keywords best used to describe it, but if you can, so much the better.

I actually wouldn't say 5%. Just make the description as short as possible, while also maximizing upon the ability of the text to sell itself to the searcher (remember what I said earlier in this post about making the best possible first impression?).

Wikipedia does NOT have special treatment by Google or any other search engine. It ranks so well because other sites link to it so often and the site uses rel="nofollow" on its external links to prevent PR juice from flowing to those sites while also maximizing its own internal site linking architecture. When are people going to realize this?

It's not science at all. At best, it's just the responsibility of the site owner to produce the best possible Web site that can be accessed and easily used by everyone. At worst, it's social engineering.

Here we go with the LSI and Silos BS again. Ugh. It's called information architecture. Use the proper name for once people.
