Here is a list of tips that beginners can use if they are confused about how to start with SEO: 1. Target low competition keywords using a Keyword Tool such as the Google Keyword Tool or Market Samurai. 2. Find out if that keyword has a market by checking the advertisers bidding on ads in those keywords. 3. Use Web 2.0 or blog posting to add backlinks to your blog. 4. Update your blog or site with relevant and unique content that contains your keyword in the text. If you guys have anything else to add, comment below.
I would add point 5. Build backlinks from other relevant sites also, by asking for link exchange, link reciprocals, etc.
I would like to add point 6, setup google analytic acc and check traffic and status and work accordingly.
I do not understand "Why" people give this kind of advice. Your keywords should be directly related to your targeted niche. Paying attention to keywords should only be important if your building a fly by night website - in other words, here today and gone tomorrow. If this site your building is a long term project, the keywords should come naturally.
I totally agree. If you want to find yourself stuck in a rut later on, follow that method. Rank for nothing but low competition keywords. This is why we structure keywords into three levels. Direct content keywords, Secondary content keywords, and long tail keywords. Targeting low competition keywords from the start will only consistently pull you in low traffic, the same as what you would receive from those keywords if they were in your long tail keywords to start with. I dont mean to badger, I mean, the majorty of advice you have given is sounds, but its a method that is practically declaring defeat from the start.
This advice, though, is for beginners. It is not wise to have them go toward more higher competitive keywords when they are just learning the ropes of internet marketing.
I'll explain it a bit more simple. By including your keyword that you plan on dominating, you are going to also be including the less compatative keywords in your tail. This will attract exactly the same traffic as if you were to focus primarily on the low value tail keywords. There is no point focusing on only low value keywords instead of going for the big keywords, its that simple. Its not good logic, and not good advice to give.
redthehat, I suppose I know what you are saying. Could you be more specific about keyword placement though?
