Hi fellows, i decided to write this after the question was being asked in phpld forums. I have experienced great success after learning these and thought i should share it and help my fellow webmasters to make their site even better. i see many sites in google indexed when you search site:xxx and their description comes upto be quiet irrelevant such as like links or link titles and such. i wrote a post below which clarifies all the problems with meta description of phpld directory http://www.idk.in/blogs/?p=60 hope i helped a bit
Ok this is interesting dude.. I will soon blog about what you have just mentioned. I personally would thank you to come with this stuff, quite interesting... hummmmm..
Thanks Smub, very interesting article buddy, actually i already read it yesterday on your blog before you even post it here
great read smub i`m going to look into this more once i catch up with all my other jobs have posted it on my blog here http://statblox.com/informationblog/ hope you dont mind
Smub i am waiting on ur reply to http://www.dmoz-resources.com/zone/showthread.php?t=477 , can you tell me how its more seo friendly ? Maybe someone else can open my eyes ? Thanks
I would not like to make just comment for saying thanks but I had a hard time deciding against it. It was a good article. And very kind of you to share it with other directory owners. I will surely take them into use sometime soon.
If your server let me made a post, i would've made it on your forum but it didn't allowed me. so i'll repost your question here (He asked this) i wouldn't take the tools like this in too much consideration because this is just like another one of these http://www.smartpagerank.com/result.php?domain=http://www.idk.in which displays the site value $40,058... will you pay this price to me ?? i will happily sell it title page should have some text from the body of that page Look at the URL it have Insurance, Look at the link in the body that have the word Insurance, and in the link's description the world is medical insurance, i hope this counts as body content. i technically do not take those tools in consideration and secondly Genuine Paid Directory is not running on a simple title system. The site is running on smart title system which allows me to make it more seo-friendly, and target the keywords i want. Technically and Supposebly directories are an internet resource. I chose the world Global Internet Resource, and that is added after each site category of mine unless if i specify a different title to get a different keyword to strike for higher ranking. For example: http://www.idk.in/Business/Insurance/ >> This cat. have a page title which is not specified in db so it is default like this. http://www.idk.in/Computers/Directories_/Paid_Directories/ >> This cat. have a page title which is specificed to target certain keywords and it is having much success. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=strong+list+of+directories&btnG=Google+Search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=strong+list+of+paid+directories http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=list+of+paid+directories hopefully you see what i am saying. It is much better than having a site http://www.gtag.idk.in/Computers/Internet/ like this with a title Production of Syed Balkhi- Computers > Internet btw: Choice i dont mind about you posting it because i see you keep the credits - will add rep Nick it is great to see you reply. Hopefully i helped. let me know if anyone have any more questions
nice very use technique, i've been using PHPLD for a year i never get any PR in my directory page, however i got a good one in my frontpage.
another good post smub. It shows the need to have category descriptions displayed at the top above all other content, like useless links. http://www.google.com/search?q=site...s=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a thats the indexed pages of my site. You will notice that the top ranking category pages are the ones where i have written myself unique descriptions, which are displayed before the category links and listings. The category links are cleverly placed in a right sidebar, which comes after the HTML of the description and the lisiting. Thats exactly why i asked aspidov for a right sidebar. I know the importance of content coming before user-needed HTML and links. I have this experience from designing the layout of my online game. Mike
Didn't really get part with right sidebar, but if you want to say it has to be on the right if html is placed bellow content-it doesn't have to be. Html can be bellow content and placed on left via css. Generally I agree that sidebar html should be on the bottom-that's why I always put it in footer.tpl file. Also, where do you put this code: {$MetaDescription|strip|escape|trim} ? In h1 tags? Thanks for answers and the article
i think you put it wherever you want the description to go. its the meta description shown in plain text.
I also want to know more about it.. Also, is there any way such that the meta descriptions for each "category" pages are created automatically - like taking the description of first added link ?
marko with tables if you are using just the normal way and not the super table way your sidebar will only be on the rightside for it to display after the content. that meta description tag i prefer very early in the beginning. check idk... i have it the first thing on topbar.tpl because everything above is the image ... so u see what i am saying. You want it to be the first thing google sees. MeetHere, i do not know of a way which allows you to do such a thing but i believe dagre is very good with php and can do this in minutes because it shouldn't be very hard
