If you have a old domain and setup a subdomain for another site, will that subdomain be seen as a new site or will it carry the benefits the the old established domain ?

    Thanks Marx

If will be seen as a new site.

Please note that all links between the domain and it's subdomains might be considered internal links. (there is no direct evidence but my experience points to that direction.)

Might be considered a new site PR wise but I would say it gets indexed a lot quicker than a new site with a new domain.
