i was thinking about redesigning my home page and i'm wondering if anyone has had success with a home page that has a different design (like a spash page)? I was thinking about a big graphic design and a text site map of the major sections of my site plus some good text that would change consistently. Maybe this will pass less pr to my inner pages and therefore give my homepage more weight?
If you mean the clothing store site, the best advice I can give to you is...don't bother. The problem with splash pages is that they simply do not work, and never have worked. As stupid as this sounds, most people don't like the extra "work" associated with a mouseclick. So...avoid it if you can.
I have two splash pages and would not recommend going that way. One is on a genealogy site that will never have many people surfing so it does not matter. The other is on a site and splash page hurts the site. Owner likes it unfortunately. The splash page has lower page rank that the page to which it links. In future I would try to talk any client out of a splash page. Shannon
as a user myself, i don't approve of site that says "Click Here To Enter", "View HTML or Flash version!" i think the only sites that should use these are sites where, like smyrl says, not many people visit; such as a town company website. definitely not for sites that wants/needs globabl exposure.
