Anyone know something about seo and hosting issues. Does hosting are important for seo strategy?
Asking for this because I chosen to buy Host1Plus hosting and now read about this seo and hosting thing, so want to know more.

Just make sure that if you want to rank in Google.com that you use a domain with a non-country-specific TLD (.com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, etc.) and that you host your site in the US. This is the optimal configuration to rank in Google.com.

If you want to rank in a country-specific Google (like Google.co.uk) then get a domain with a country-specific TLD (like .co.uk) and host your site in the targeted country (like the UK). This is the optimal configuration to rank in a country-specific Google index.

One other thing related to hosting... I would highly recommend that you pay the extra $2 or so per month to get a dedicated IP address for your hosting account. You can use that one dedicated IP to host multiple sites of your own. Most people opt out and go the cheap route by using shared hosting where your site and many others are all hosted on the same IP.

If you happen to get stuck on a server w/ someone building a link farm and Google decides to put all the web sites at that IP under penalty because they have discovered a huge farm at that IP address, you will be screwed until you can submit a request for reconsideration and Google gets around to manually reviewing your site and lifting your penalty. It's sort of a "guilt by association" penalty. $2/month is a cheap way to avoid an interruption to your site's traffic for days or weeks while you wait on Google to lift your penalty.

I am not saying that a domain with a .co.uk TLD hosted in the UK cannot rank in Google.com. Since there are so many ranking factors considered by Google, if you suck at one you can always compensate by excelling at others (perhaps getting more links). But simply that it is harder to make that domain rank in Google.com than it is to make a domain with a .com TLD hosted in the US rank in Google.com. It requires more backlinks, and those backlinks need to come mostly from other sites that rank in Google.com if you want a .co.uk site hosted in the UK to rank in Google.com.

If you have a domain with a .co.uk TLD, you cannot even set the Geographic Target setting at Dashboard -> Site Configuration -> Settings in Google's Webmaster Tools to the US (i.e. Google.com). This should tell you something. Google automatically assumes that if you picked a country-specific domain then you want to rank in the country-specific Google index.

Same holds true if you are trying to rank a domain with non-country-specific TLD hosted in the US in, say, Google.co.uk. It can be done, it's simply harder. That .com or .net domain will need more backlinks and mostly links from other sites which rank in Google.co.uk... in otherwords, it will need more backlinks and most should be from .co.uk sites.

It is slightly easier for a .com hosted in the US,for instance, to rank in Google.co.uk than for a .co.uk domain hosted in the UK to rank in Google.com because the .com IS allowed to pick a Geographic Target of United Kingdom in Google Webmaster Tools. But they are still at a disadvantage because 1) they are missing the country-specific TLD and 2) they are hosted in the wrong country.

Go to Google.co.uk and search for anything (underwear, automobiles, mortgage). I'll bet MOST of the results are .co.uk domains, although you will see .com domains ranking there as well (in many cases UK companies that bought .com domains). Now go to Google.com and search for the same keyword phrases... Tell me how many .co.uk sites you see? You may see one once in a blue moon, if ever.
