SEO & Shopping Cart Systems

I am looking to add a shopping cart system on one of our sites. What is the best option in terms of SEO is there a great "off the shelf" solution we can use - free or otherwise? Or do we look at perhaps building our own from the ground up? We are looking at quite a large range of products not just a few items. Any suggestions?

I will highly recommend using oscommerce. The product has a ever growing user community. Needless to say there are are some really good contributions like header tags controller, SEO friendly urls etc which if used properly will give you the desired results as far as SEO is concerned. I have been using it for quite sometime now and I am very happy with it. Good Luck.

I agree OScomm is a nice program for free. Has many features and a lot of 3rd party addons to help spruce up the look and feel of the cart :).

You must know oscommerce can be easily hacked. If you want to sell downloadable products I wouldn't recommend it.

I had site like that and guy downloaded everything I had for free using exploits.

Thanks for the tip - we are going to be selling "real world" products so I hope it won't be an issue.

Another good one for ASP is CandyPress. www.candypress.com. I really enjoy that one also. The cart is, but they get ya by charging for the admin section :-s.

You may try Avactis shopping cart. It's SEO friendly shopping cart software and they have a free version.

Are there any SEO blunders to be aware of when implementing an online store? I have a site with good SERP's and don't want to make any mistakes with duplicate pages etc when I add a cart to it

I would recommend Zencart (based off oscommerce, but with a lot of mods built in), and Cubecart.

I recommend our sister company, Shoptistic's cart which is a modified version of CS-Cart.

    www.shoptistic.com

SEO-friendly URL's and it performs VERY well in SE's.

OSCommerce seems to be a highly recommended cart. Is it relatively user friendly for a non-technical person?
