I was wondering if there any professional SEO specialists here. I myself am planning on becoming a SEO specialist but I don't know what sort of classifications a person needs. I was thinking about becoming a Computer Science major. So if there any SEO specialists or consultants I was wondering which classes or diplomas you guys had to get. Thank You
You'll probably learn more on the net and through your own experimenting than you will in school. Start by learning how to make light html code that validates and then go from there.
Well, I would not call myself a specialist in SEO. I like to keep things simple. However, your question is asking about what qualifications one needs to be an SEO specialist? Here's some quals I thought of: Lots of Coffee Lots of reading up of long time dedicated SEO experts blogs Applying what you learn about SEO Do lots of testing on parallel sites before committing changes to your own sites Keep checking with DP SEO threads Don't listen to all SEO tips and tricks. There's a lot of rubbish out there If you keep to these you should be OK. I was wondering if there is a degree for SEO? There should be! You know you can get a Uni degree for General Knowledge? LOL Col
the problem with SEO as it relates to formal education is just the fact of the matter that things change so quickly. formal education isn't without its merits by any means-- I go to college, although I have no need to at all. a lot of seemingly abstract concepts will be picked up through a basic liberal arts education that can really apply to doing things here. classes in social psychology, logic, etc are classes that don't seem like they'd add value but they honestly do. a format education should be used to compliment your education, not to be the sole means of learning. true for all fields, but especially in one like this. if you're planning on going, getting a degree, and getting hired as an SEO somewhere... good luck. if you plan on taking classes, reading a lot, working at making websites again and again, etc, you'll do great.
Most SEO Specialists I've seen around are self proclaimed or others see them as specialists. I think you just need to prove yourself in that field, get some websites on top positions for competitive keywords and the title will come by itself.
dunno if I agree with that. lots of people here have very successful sites but have a low profile and don't make it known they're associated with them.
I agree..search things about SEO and learn on your own..as an SEO you also need patience..read a lot and you'll definitely learn a lot of things..you may start learning here at DP..
School is cool, and you can learn the basics of SEO. But why go to school if you want to learn by yourself? More convenient, and you can concentrate more than going to school. Umm, the right school for that is Webmaster's school or academy. Webmastery is more complex than just SEO.
I've seen certificates offered in the field of SEO in some of the news letters I get, I can't think of any references, but they're out there. As far as self proclaimed or publicly appreciated, I think the big difference is how honest the person making the claims is. There are so many "so-called" SEO experts that advertise claiming this and that with no hard evidence, and there are those that go onto forums and describe a site that they are proud of, tell you the current drawbacks and flaws, and tell you how well it's ranking, I think those honest ones are the ones that gain in public opinion.
whatever they were, they were just trying to get your money. having certain oher certifications that are related (adwords certified professional, for example) may help, but apart from that kind of thing there's not much out there that has any merit at all.
reading a good seo book and reading webmaster forums you will know what you need for search engine optimization.
So there really are no recommended courses or anything? Because the reading and browsing blogs I've been doing ever since I touched a computer mouse. Thank You
I think colleges can offer basic courses of SEO, advance courses must be reviewed at home (e.g. Black hats, on page optimization).
