I'm a new webmaster looking to optimize my new site for search engines. I was looking for some references on best practices and what I should do to achieve a better search engine ranking. SEO is very new to me so I was hoping to get some help from everyone here at this forum. I'm not looking for services that will optimize my site for me, just some information or links pointing to some good info. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Have not read these in some time. Think Dazzlindonna, Rustbrick, SEOGuy, Webby, Search Engine Watch ... all have good ones online. Someone just started a thread (http://www.seofaq.net/) today that will lead to a good resorce or so it sounds.

Read, read, read is the best answer.

    Good luck,

    Shannon

I have a little 1 pager that outlines some basics of SEO

    Free SEO Guide

Again, its just the basics according to me, and is constrained to just those things that I have had experience with.

You'll find there are 100's...1,000's of so-called "resources", but there are a few things you'll likely want to consider when deciding on which resources to 'learn' from.

You want to find 2-3 reliable sources:
No one source gets everything right, every time ;)

You want your resources to be up to date:
Things change and shift from time to time as algorhythms, engine popularity, search patterns change.

You want resources that have community involvement:
ie forum - ie Digital Point ;) - the reports you get from the masses can help you confirm or quash opinions regarding anomolies in rankings, shifts in algos, updates to serps and all of that.

You may want sources that aren't trying to sell you something:
I find that these sources tend to lean toward their product or service, and tend not to report on news that may shed negative light on their established opinions, products or services

    Lastly -
You want to beware of sources that claim to 'know-it-all' - they may genuinely believe that they do...but...they don't ;)

You can have a look at this article on getting links written by my friend and also go in for submission or articles to various article directories and your site to SEO friendly directories.

Remember that incoming links pointing towards your site are the key to sucess.
