I suggest link building. Be prepared for spiratic results at first. My one site had some new content pages, within a week were 4 and 5 for their search terms, brought in nice traffic, now they are off the 5th page =( don't know what exactly happened, but still adding more backlinks and adding unique content to the site.

Sounds like a "new content boost" to me. They can be annoying, especially when it gives a person false hope before the bubble bursts. But it's just a phase, and if you keep working at it, your pages will rank better (by the way, I have my SERPs listings set at 100 per page, so there's no 5th page for you - I'll see it without having to "turn the page" so to speak).

Why bother? There's a lot of good (not to mention better) sites out there that offer the same (and better) information for free.
