I want to start a blog and a forum for my financial website http://www.financenewstoday.com, but I am wondering from an SEO standpoint, am I better off putting the blog and forum in a subdomain or a folder?
Thanks everyone for the input. Since it seems to be split down the middle I set the Forum up at http://www.financenewstoday.com/forum and the blog at http://blog.financenewstoday.com. Haven't posted anything to either yet, but will do so tomorrow.
Subdomain will be better but but to start with you can go for subfolders also going for subdomains will make it too costly. Better work on site for a year or so try to gain as much as theme based links as possible and than possible go for yahoo listing and than start using subdomains.
Aren't subdomains treated as separate sites? I would use folders instead, that way google will think all the content is just for one site and increase it in serps.
It doesn't matter whatsoever SEO-wise. The only difference is for type-ins, whatever you think is easier for your target base.
