Hi to all of you. I have this questions: Let's say that your site has the same images names as some others on the net. If you change the names - rename them. Lets say from header1 to header111, will make any differences? Will be more SEO, unique for sure, but will be more SEO? So if any one knows - please give me a short answer. I will glad to hear from you, Thanks in advance.:)

keep the image names as to what the images are.. cralwers cant see ur image as such, but can read the image names.. you can perhaps use a single kw in the image name?

SEO Wise, its recommended to keep the name short and either a single keyword or whats the image all about example: red-widget.jpg and wrap the image around some text ofcourse relevant text..

The duplication of image file names alone don't matter alot, search "logo" in Google Images and there's probably 1,000s of images called logo.jpg

It's much like webpages, if it made it harder to rank because your page's file name was index.html there would be problems. However... What it more important is "duplicate images" much like duplicate webpage content.

When you do a Google Image Search, you will very rarely see duplicate images, ie same file name, same dimensions and same file size. This is how the Google Image algo detects duplicate content with images.

So, if your picture is obtained from another site (like copying a web page) you need to make it unique by changing the dimensions, file size or file name.

You can see what i mean by a search for a Salvador Dali painting, third line down there's 3 duplicate images but they are listed due to different file name and file size so Google see's them as unique. If they wern't like this it's highly unlikely all 3 would be listed.

I've never heard anyone talk about duplicate image search content before, so there you have it. ;)

Only ALT tags matter for SEO. The name of the file isnt important. SE`s crawl the TITLE of the image.

Image name does not matter that much but having different alt text will make the image appear as original . Thats why you see same images on google image search . All images will have different alt text .

For those who think Image name is not important, IMHO, please see this:

Search for Ferrari in images all the top images have Ferrari in the image name.. Let me do that for u:

    http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&rlz=1T4GGIH_enIN217IN217&q=Ferrari

    Search Laptops:

    http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&rlz=1T4GGIH_enIN217IN217&q=Laptop

MOst of the images DO have the name in the file name segment..

No doubt Alt tag is important, But for those who say Image name is not important, Please revise your statements, It's Important as well..and the proof is search for anything specific, you can see the image names in the URL's from where they are picked up..

Basic thing is, Cralwers cannot see whats there in the image, the only thing that helps it is the attributes, The title, ALT tags, Text/content wrapped around it, and IMAGE name as well..

Consider it important unlike the above posts.. (No disrespect Intended, but providing the correct info)

    Regards

You could use ALT tags for the images names so it can be detected by the SE spiders...
