Hello everyone, As an introduction, my name is Derek and I am new to the web-site world. I started a blog a few months back because of my love for making fun of celebrities. Now, I find myself neurotically reading up on how to improve the site. These sites have been a great help thus far: Problogger.net , Digital Point, Shoemoney.com , and seobook.com I still find I am running into some problems with page rank. I can't seem to raise my Index page rank above PR 3. I have over 4,000 backlinks from google, over 40,000 from MSN, but for some reason 0 backlinks in Yahoo according to www.mypagerank.net . Although my Index page hasn't been above PR 3, some of my category pages are page rank 5. I was wondering what else could be affecting this? Thank you in advance, your help is appreciated.
I understand your frustration but it's really difficult to give advice without seeing your site. Are the links you have quality?
Oops, I'm very sorry about that... Forgot to include the link. my site is http://www.derekhail.com I have links coming from a variety of high ranked websites, such as www.imnotobsessed.com www.tmz.com cityrag.blogs.com dlisted.blogspot.com www.hollyscoop.com problogger.net www.icydk.com just to name a few.....
your site is really good, we have to see why yahoo is not indexing your site, u can pm me with site details , i will do small changes and i dont charge anything for this.
Mumbai, NOw that I think about it... I jsut went to yahoo to check my backlinks... It says that I have 47,000 backlinks from Yahoo, but whenever I use a yahoo backlink checker tool , it comes up 0. Why is there a discrepancy? Hrm...
The yahoo backlinks checker is probably broken. yahoo recently moved the link: command queries through their site explorer so most tools are now broken.
Ahh, that makes a lot of sense then. Hrm, I'm still wondering about my page rank though. The only thing I could see as a problem is my individual posts list the dates and all that useless stuff before the keywords, but thats not something I can change at this point because ill lose my backlinks.
it is always good if we have good PR for internal pages, because very big sites dont have good pr for sub pages, just do little on -page work and build good internal links , u get pr for main page also very easly.
Hello Mumbai, First let me start off by saying, so far thanks for all of your input and advice. I do have a follow up question if you dont mind though... With regard to internal linking, do you have any suggestions on how to improve internal linking on this particular website? Thank you in advance, Derek Hail
Ya before i giving any advice how to link and all, i need to do small research on keywords u r using , Pr of internal pages so on.
Part of the issue may be that your backlinks are from high PR domains but low PR pages on those domains. Also looks like your domain is less than a year old: http://www.seochat.com/?go=1&option=com_seotools&tool=28&domain=derekhail.com&toolsubmit=Submit so your PR will probably move once you have a few more months of longevity. (Usually month 18+ see the best results) Good luck.
What I dont understand is, I know domains that are most definately like 3-6 months old with page rank of 5/6 already... I dont understand that how they got it and I couldnt. The only thing I am realizing that MAY be an issue, I may have been penalized because back last october I had something else up that I completley uremoved from the web although I had it indexed. So maybe my domain is just penalized right now and imworking out of it.
