Hello All, I had an interesting idea for a thread and I thought I would share it here. I know everyone here has different SEO and SEM methods, ideas, and practices, but let's forget about those differences and try to unite! :-p In this thread I am going to mention a theoretical company (I swear its not real! :-p) and I would like to give my 2 cents on how I would promote it from scratch... After I say my part I was wondering if some of the big dogs here wouln't mind chiming in and making some (hopefully) minor corrections. If I am dead wrong, please tell me, but I really would like this to be a strong SEO method thread with a practical backbone. Anyways here it goes... So I get a call from John, John owns a Pet Sitting, Dog Walking, and Pet Boarding Service in Tampa Florida (Wherever but need a city for the example). He tells me he really wants to CREATE a new site as his old one is simply out of date and he feels it cannot be used for SEO purposes. So let us assume that his old domain (besides age) offers no real value here... So he asks me to start immediately in creating him a new site (layout) that is pre-optimized for SEO purposes. I will of course agree as doing this kind of business is this examples goal! Before anything we will look on the search engines to piece together the competitive landscape... I will throw together a little report and decide what MUST be done in order to take over thosespots over time... So step 1: Choosing a new domain name ... after doing some brief keyword research, I find that the term Dog Walker Tampa, and Pet Sitting Tampa are the two most popular phrases for this niche...of course there are more... Dog Sitting Tampa, Dog Walking Tampa etc... Now in choosing the domain I have two choices, I can opt for the Keyword rich version... TampaPetSitting.com or perhaps shoot for the TampaDogWalking.com whatever he focuses on more, or make it more general TampaPetServices or PetCare... either way it is ultimately something I would ask him to choose after telling him the possible benefits... So we choose TampaPetServices.com and decide to use the folder structure and URL's to Include the other keywords we missed in the domain and such. So I will break his site into three sections (FOR now) 1. Pet Sitting Services Tampa 2. Dog Walking Services Tampa 3. Prices for Pet Sitting and Dog Walking Each of these sections might be placed into its own folder int he structure of the site... and the URL may indeed include the appropriate keywords. I wont go into all of that, for now lets assume I have keyword rich, unique content for each page, and the linking structure is solid... So the site is now build... I now may create a sitemap to use on the site and place it where it belongs... Next I move on to Meta Description and Keyword Tags / Title Tags... I am going to shoot for 2-3 keywords or keyword phrases per page on his site as I dont want to go to crazy on each page... So here is where I will leave it open to discussion...what are the next steps...keep in mind the PRIMARY goal in this projext andin the eyes of the buyer is that he wants to be in the SERPS asap... MSN, Yahoo, Google etc... What is the fastest way to get listed? (I have my ideas) but then it wouldnt be a discussion! Once listed weshoot for the skies on a "Semi-Competive" Set of keywords...Next comes? Directory SUbmissions? Article Marketing? Press Releases? I can't wait to hear some opinions on th eabove methods and the sections to follow! Cheers, Jeff
