SEO potential of ancient pages?

    what do u think of the SEO potential of ancient pages lying dormant?

    by this i mean pages that are very old lying around on the web, but have few or no visitors. However google has kept them in its record for years, say since 2000.

    if you put a backlinks to your new sites on such pages, would that have a substantial effect on your rankings?

    what about old pages on free webservers such as tripod?

    Can't hurt to try. It means an update to that page, which is good. Do select the words on the link carefully and try and select a target page that's in the same niche as the original page.

    i wasnt talking about google punishment on this thread. that was the other thread.


    this is a rather interesting topic though. i just came upon a really humor/parody old site i'd made ages ago at http://www.geocities.com/saltrange2000/monkeyman and then totally forgot about it for 6 years!
