SEO & Podcasts - how does it work?

Can anyone tell me how SEO and podcasts work? I see you can either upload a podcast to your server but it will drain your bandwidth, or there are sites that specialize in podcast hosting, if you use the later (podcast hosting site) how do you get SEO from it?

Also if you add a "podcast" button on your site I presume you link to the podcast host or RSS feed? When RSS and podcasts are emntioned, my eyes glaze over!

If you create an RSS feed, do you include the mp3 in the same feed for the main site or a new feed?

    Enlightenment needed...care to share?:D

Just as you optimize a web page you can optimize a podcast for search engines (and audio search engines). You can use third party to host your podcast there are a bunch, but you will have less control over your file that way.

Generally it makes sense to create a transcript of the show and include it in the Item description of the RSS feed. Also optimize the ID3 tags of the audio file for audio search engines.

The podcast feed is simply an RSS feed with the audio file as the enclosure in the Item. The easiest way to create an RSS feed is to use software. A podcast is simply an RSS feed that contains an audio file in the enclosure field. The following will walk you through the process of creating a podcast using the software - http://www.feedforall.com/podcasting-tutorial.htm (there is also a built in wizard).

You can download an evaluation version from http://www.feedforall.com
