Is SEO a one off service, or a monthly service? Do you have to keep paying for a guys service every month?

Basically SEO companies and freelancers charge on monthly basis. Based on their monthly services they show some results, in terms of increasing rankings, traffic etc.

is it possible that SEO will be a one off service thing? if you submit all the links, do all the articles, what else do you have to do the next month and so on?

Depends on how tough your keyword is. It could take years to get no.1 for certain keywords.

SEO is not a one time process. Even if you do submissions for one time and then stop, it will not help you to retain ranking for the keywords as others continue to do submissions and their ranking will go over yours as they will be able to generate more backlinks for their keywords which you will not be doing.

There are two type SEO, one is to boost your SERP, they might charge either monthly basis or one-off for the project. However, those people charge one-off will not helping you to maintain your SERP, you still have to pay month basis for the regular SEO job to maintain your SERP

SEO is a daily, monthly and yearly process as a whole...

Certain tasks and be done at different times in the year and don't necessarily need to be on a daily or monthly basis. As where others should be done on a daily basis to either keep up with your competition or pass them up...

Once at the top for your keywords, its more of a monthly maintenance thing, to maintain your rankings, unless your competition passes you up... Then you need to pick it up a few notches to regain your top position.

Keep the content on your site up-to-date... Whether it be a blog, or a few basic pages...

Build backlinks daily, weekly or monthly to help boost your SERPs....

it can be a one time thing only for very uncompetitive keywords. the internet changes - and so do the competitor sites.

In SEO you always have to look out for ever-changing search engine algos. Once they change, you have to adjust your website if you want to remain in top 10.
Plus, if your website does not get new content and your competitors do, you will sink in rankings.
So, SEO is an ongoing race, where you got search engines AND your competitors to compete with ;)

Every keyword targeted needs to be analyzed. The tougher the keyword to get to the top then the more expense. Correct SEO involves one powerful and timely execution of an effective SEO strategy. After this a review of your positions is required every 2 months.

Depends upon the competition, PR, content of your website. Simply if you want to increase the volume of traffic every month you have to for it monthly. If you stop the work then another'll take over. :)

SEO is a continuous process. But it does not mean you need to do monthly work. Get a service from professional for few months. If done correctly you will get backlinks automatically.

    How it is done ?
Ask your SEO person to focus on methods like article submission and any other methods helps to attract backlinks.

But remember you need to do some touch ups once in every quarter.

its all based on your keywords - monthly charges are for "defending" your keywords for serps

i sell my seo services on a monthly basis. if a client requests a one off i simply tell them that it's a waste of both of our time because seo is something you need to keep on top of.

i ask my clients to sign a 6 month contract and then ongoing after that.
