Hi guys, I'm trying to rank on page 1 in Google for a very specific long tail keyword phrase. When I search the phrase on Google there are only 2,000 results total. So I'd like to get your advice on getting my landing page to rank high (page 1).. If the keyword phrase is: smalltown "Dentist Office" (Note: "smalltown" would really be the town's name lol) What tools can I use to rank really high for this phrase? Is it possible for just a landing page to rank high? Also, would ppc (adwords) help this to get a higher ranking faster? Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated!!
Make sure your page is optimized...your meta tags, have the keyword appear naturally on your site, have the keyword in anchor text on your site etc... Then your best bet is to build backlinks with the keyword in your anchor text. With only 200 search results, you should be able to rank pretty fast.
Backlinks with your phrase as the anchor text is what you want - Oh, and use the phrase in the pagetitle and in h1 headers. Adwords won't help your organic listing, it's completely separate.

you should be able to do this quite easily by building backlinks with your keyword as the anchor text.
if there are only 2000 search results for your term, then your term is not competitive at all and doing seo for your term to get ranked on the top of google should be walk in the park. just make sure you do proper onpage optimization and then get a handfull of quality backlinks which will do the job

Adwords campaign will not help to rank better in natural rankings. But it can give you instant traffic in the meantime. 2,000 search results is very low competitive phase so I suggest to put your link to the landing page (yes, any subpage can rank well). Don't worry, this is quite big forum but I don't believe that there are other dentists from your city here You can also try article marketing or blog commenting. These strategies are good to gain some backlinks for inner pages.
