I'm new to search engine optmization and am trying to get up to speed on all the lingo I read on the boards. Several members have been very helpful both in responding to posts and in PMs, but I still have some basic questions. Hope they are not simple. 1. Is there an accepted definition of each PR category? Is PR based merely on the number of links or on the number and quality of links? 2. If the later, what is quality based on, the number of links to each of the sites linking to the target such that PR is some type of recursive measure of links? 3. Apparently there is a way to find PR and back links from google. I have been pointed to tools that yield these measures, but I'd like to know where they come from? Can they be obtained directly from google's website? 4. By visiting the McDar Data Center it appears there is a way to query google to learn the PR, back links, and last cache date for a given URL? McDar runs a query at www.google.com/ie?q=URL which appears to yields a list of links to the URL as a numbered list. Where can this query be entered from a form on google's site? Thanks everyone for their help so far. I hope these questions will clarify things more.
Since you are new to SEO I will save you the time about not worry about PR. Quality is most based on PR when it comes to PR. Dont check backlinks on Google since it is broke and you will get an inaccurate reading and get mad. Use MSN or Yahoo to check them. I dont understand. If you want to see when Google cached your site do a search for your site name and click on Cached.
