You judge competition by how many pages appear in the results for a term? Sure that shows you how many other pages there are for a term, but that doesn't mean that's how many people are actively competing and certainly does not show how difficult a term will be to rank for. Determining how difficult a term is to rank for has very little to do with how many results appear. Look at the number and type of links the first 3 results have pointing to them, this is a far better measure.

Well I see "only" 18.700.000 but that's all fake, the update is still running. I am observing SERPs for KW with about 1 million competition in "normal" times that showed between 12 million and 45 million pages during the update. You all should wait with your conclusions, specially when you are talkinkg about the number of links the competitor's pages have. I placed # 1s for clients with less than 50 links while the # 2 had 15.000! If you analize, analize complete and don't try to give advise by just a quick glance at the SERPs.
