SEO keyowrd research

Okay I am searching for keyword using seobook, some of the keywords come up as having 2000 hits a day, I stick those keywords into google trends and it says that there is not enough search volume to show anything.

    How is this possible?

If something is getting 2000 hits it should show up in Trends but alot of these big keyowrds do not.

    Can anyone suggest anything here?

    Thanks

Depends on the sources you are using. If you are using the Overture keyword suggestion tool, then that data is about 18 months out of date. If you are using the Wordtracker keyword tool, I'll tell you this for free, sometimes the results are way off.

Wordtracker calculates that they have around 0.85% of the market, so they simply multiple this up to 100% to get the number of searches per day - not very useful at all!

The most reliable sources are MSN AdCenter and Google's own keyword suggestion tool which shows you the relative number of searches - not actual figures.

Collate the data from all three sources and you should be able to spot some trends - and that's the best you can hope for. If Wordtracker gives very high search volumes, but Google says not enough data, then I'd go with what Google says!

In google if it says 'no data' then that mean no search traffic or they just did not collect the data for that month?

The google trends shows highly competitive keywords, I think better if you use google adword keyword suggestion tool.

Those data usually shows the results based on how frequently each term is searched on, however if you go for single word keywords, you'll find them highly competitive, it would be good strategy if you're target the various two or three word combination, for example people looking for "DVD" will not search for "DVD" only, they will narrow down search by typing specific dvd they're looking for like "dvd oscar movie", "dvd james bond movie" and so on..

Wordtrackers are not always accurate you can follow my article on some keywords which i found and were "supposed" to have high amounts of traffic however through optimising my site for the keywords i have proved that the wordtracker and seo book are both inaccurate in some case.
