I have been learning seo for about 11 months now, mostly from a friend/work colleague, that has been doing it 5+ years. For the first time today I have been reading through this forum properly and why are there so many guys claiming silly things? "10000 link directory submissions No 1 rank google" "no1 in google guaranteed" I have noticed alot of people writing seo articles but they haven't seo'd their articles? It just seems that the seo community has alot of jokers, probably more vocal than the serious ones. I would never write an article on what I know about seo, why shoot yourself in the foot and risk a competitor finding out and kicking your ass in rankings? I would give friends seo tips, but I wouldn't shout this over the forum. I spend a lot of time learning and I wouldn't want to give that away to people who could be competing. It just seems a lot of guys who are doing seo by themselves are just looking for short cuts. We do full reports on peoples sites for about 30 dollars and you wouldn't believe the few things guys know or do to there site. I am not claiming to be an expert, just asking why so many people promise and say stuff is fact, when we all know, most of it is opinion or even better, gathered from experience. The only real way at knowing seo, is by working with it, day in and day out.
Actually you know what, I am totally opposite to you. I give information freely, and don't try to hide anything. It tends to come back to me in spades, and people end up giving me their suggestions, tips, etc so I benefit from it as well. Plus I like helping out people. Why keep everything to yourself. The internet is a huge place, what is the likelyhood your going to be in the same niche, or even micro niche? Pretty small. Each to their own though, I'm not telling you what you should do, just what I do. Cheers
Those ppl who guarantee #1 spots are those who make this industry more difficult. Companies are getting burnt by those jokers, changing ppls perception of honest SEO companies.
Anyone selling an ebook or info on how to make money/get to number one 100% are not able to do it themselves. They just want to draw in desperate people.
Thats a very fair comment. I have many people ask me questions about seo and making websites and I find I spend more time working for free. Its about time I looked after myself and say to people, if they want help them pay up. My attitude would be different if I was working for an employer.
Very true, they are sending there cash to the wrong people. I stick to doing seo reports and i only work on my own sites, that give me more scope to experiment. I think alot of the honest seo companies get left out as people tend to go for the companies that promise the most. The fact is that getting near the top is time consuming from what I have found. I am aiming for the top 1-3 with a keyword right now, and the page has only been indexed 16 hours ago. I think 2-3 months I will get there.
I started reading dp when I was having trouble with adwords, and read things on the adwords sub-forum that helped me out. At the time I wasn't even registered, but when I started to see people asking about things that I could answer, having learnt from the forum and from putting some things into practice, I started answering where I could to give back . (and didn't think I would be hanging around, hence am one of those posters who hates their user name and would've chosen anyhting else if I'd thought it through). If I saw somone asking about something that made them a direct competitor , then I'd hold my peace, but I do remember what it's like to be totally confused by it all, so most particularly if I see a new webmaster being given what I think is misinformation, I'll put the other side of the case, because I know that following that 'advice' could set them back months. It's karma - what goes around, comes around - I've taken advice from people, now I know a bit more and have a bit more experience, I'll try and give a bit back
This is why I'm here too. I've got a TON of help from people in this forum and a couple others. As a matter of fact, pretty much everything I know about HTML, CSS and SEO is from forums like this. I feel like if people are going to help me out, it's only fair to return the favor. I enjoy helping people here... it very self-satisfying. Plus, SEO doesn't have structure. Nothing in SEO is definite, and we'll never know exactly how pages get ranked (well, we have a really good idea of it, but know one knows the algorithms or whatever)... a lot of what's being discussed here are theories and/or educated guesses. Many issues are open for debate, and that often makes things interesting. I love putting in my two cents, and I like hearing others' ideas.
Believe me, I even come across some members here asking for help on how to optimize his/her SEO blog. While others just do it for sole purpose of getting attention and sudden surge of traffic. It's a joke really sometimes.
Are you nuts, did you even read the OP's post. I think you are a forum troll trying to increase your post counts. And what is this rant about, "all you pathetic people", if you cant read, go back to school moron.
Really??? Did you guys even read the thread before posting? You can post these answers in every SEO thread on this forum.
