I have seen the same question thousands of times. "What does it take to get high search engine rankings?" To which the same answers are always quoted. I believe some people tend to think SEO is magic. Well it isn't. The same methods you have heard a thousand times is all there is to it. It just takes a lot of time and work like all things. So get yourself a system in place for getting links (shameless plug: the site in my signature has a step by step guide) and get to work.

Good post, it is good being reminded of this. I think the people who are asking this question are hoping there are seo tricks to speed up the process, because they are not willing to put in the effort.
I firmly believe that SEO is not magic because it requires a lot of patience, time and hardwork in implement various strategies. It is also an everyday experience and a learning in progress process where in you need to be updated.
Are you kidding me??!! SEO is magic, like Houdini or P.T. Barnum. Actually all joking aside, there are a lot of similarities between SEO and illusions. Slight of hand takes a lot of practice, you have to know what you are doing, you have to show that you can actually perform an illusion before people can be amazed and so on.
just do onpage seo, with a mixture of backlinks: blog commenting, socialbookmarking, articles, videos, .edu / .gov sites and web 2.0 there are tricks out there to speed it up and make it easier. some times people share them some times you do have to pay for them. Most of the times its best to get a reputable coach to teach you or share a their system with you
Agreed... there is not short cut but handsome work deployed on site scientifically with a mix of art to attract users - can give you good rankings.
You are telling absolutely right you can find many question regarding SEO and all are saying same answer SEO is not over the night method it takes lots of hard work sometimes you feel very bore while doing same thing on each days but you don't have any other option. According to me in SEO field nobody know core part of SEO everybody is applying same thing like directory,forum bla bla bla methods.
i wish that it was magic. but it really isn't. What it is is a balance between science and art. It's like a place where online marketing , science and common sence really meet. The only magic formula i can think of , it always try to make a site which is more useful to your visitors and users. Yes search engines are important , but the more easy to use and intuitive your site is , the more traffic you can attract. Also give something unique to the web.
