I concur. Years ago the Army sent me (kicking and screaming) to Honduras for 8 months. My crew flew buffer zone patrols along the Honduran border, and delivered medical supplies to the aid stations in Belize. The summer temps reach about 800 degrees. Humidity makes it feel like 820. The insects are the size of grapfruits, and all of them carry malaria. It's hard to tell the police from the criminals, as they both have a casual disregard for the law. There is a reason why that place is cheap.
Well it´s not exactly the South American jungle but I would move back to Thailand in a second and spend my days between working out of a souped up beach hut, shopping in the Times Mall and cruising the Chao Praya on Mr. Tai´s fat bottom boat.
I am not sure of your threshold for rustic, but over a long period of time I believe this should be a consideration. I am soft now. I would opt for Rincon, PR. St. John or Tortola for a long term move now. 5 years ago...along the Pacific coast of CR or Nicaragua. Before that-Isla Margarita or Cartegena. How good is your spanish? etc etc etc
Try eastern bloc countries, places like Bulgaria have great beaches and cheap property - that will rise in value fast.
Hey you guys. Keep India on your shortlist And you can outsource relocation to one of many on DP But Noppid, We will allow you to bring only one of them here.
I'm staying right where I am. I'll stay and pay taxes and get the ammenities that come with it. I aint that cheap that I'll move to a third world country to make it look like I'm rich in comparison to the locals. :/ The one about Mom's Basement was good too!
Following ROAR's lead I just checked the cost of living in Costa Rica and the British Virgin Island -- God you've got to love that name, imagine a whole island full of virgins, WOW! Neither of these countries are really chep to live in. Where is the cheapest place(s) in the world to live that still has a decent infastructure and a stable government?
Guys, I live in Bali. My main cost is dial-up, about 200-250 USD a month But you can eat here for a few adsense clicks, rent a house like this http://www.bali-information.com/bali_property.php?i=264 for about 7000 clicks And.... taxes, well, I don' tell you...
Cricket, I was just thinking about you the other day and wondering why we hadn't heard from you for such a long time? What have you been doing and where would you like to move?
Bob, I think that's called "stalking"... Remember why the court issued that restraining order? The unfortunate incident with the blow-up sheep on the tennis court?
Will - have you considered living on a boat? I have an acquaintance that floats around off the coast of New Zealand ... he's running a business from his cabin and living like a savage. It sounds like heaven.
I would not, could not on a boat. I would not, could not with a goat. Not on a boat. Not with a goat. Not in a box. Not with a fox. I do not like green eggs and ham. I do not like them, Samiam.
Hi Bob! I am always around. I read the forum for at least a few minutes every day to keep up with everyone, but I don't post very often. Come to think of it, I haven't seen you doing all that much posting either! I have been busier than heck running our business, so doesn't leave a ton of extra time. It is also much easier to stay out of trouble when I watch quietly from the wings. Where would I live? I have traveled a lot of places in my life, but I am a country girl at heart. After living most of my adult life in the Texas Hill Country, I never thought there could be any place better. Late in life though, I discovered Mississippi. I have been here about 4 years now and think it is the world's best kept secret. I truly can't imagine any place being more incredible than where I already am! Cricket
