Hi all, I have a generic question regarding SEO and domain names. I will make up a similar example. For eg, I buy a domain name called cardcenter.com. I want to target the keywords "cards, baseball cards, hockey cards, etc). Will I get any boost in SEO via domain name from the word "card" in the domain name, even though it doesn't end with an s "cards"? Thanks
it think it will not , basically exact keywords help in boosting ranking in google for eg car rental mumbai .in is a site which rank 1 for all car rental mumbai search , linking building that too deep link will help you rank higher , blog post , comments will help thanks
Proper SEO for the content in your website with keyword CARDS can help you better. For search engines card and cards are 2 different words
My feeling is your will get an SEO benefit - if you search sports cards in gooogle then you can see they bold the term card in the search results.
True...I have a delima with two names...one with cards, one with card. The one with card sounds better and is easier to remember..but i'm not sure if I should get the one with cards just for an SEO boost for my keywords which are all long tail keywords ending in cards. The same long term keywords with card get half of the searches according to googles adword suggestion tool.
you will get a benefit with the singular version no doubt, but not as much as if it were the exact plural version
you should be #1 for searching "cardcenter" eventually.. but the keyword card and the keyword center are too popular for you to just show up and be killin it. just handle your content and seo like everyone else till u get up there.. sadly someone with the domain askdfjlasdkf.com has the same chance with proper content and seo to get in that search.. i think so anyways..
In my experience you only really get a boost from having a keyword in your domain if it's the exact phrase you are targeting. Even then the boost you get is only small. It's much more about your content and your links than it is about your domain name. One place your domain matters is where you are putting up your URL because you can't use anchor text. Then your keyword in the domain may actually count for something. So it helps to have a keyword in the domain but it's not a huge factor (in my opinion).
Thanks for the replies I'm still contemplating over the two names. It sounds like I wont get much SEO out of the domain name unless all of the keywords are in the name in sequence..correct? For my example..I have two examples like below: cardcenter.com totalcards.com So one name has "card" and the other has "cards". My realistic scenario is the domain with card sounds better and is easier to remember...in comparisson to the cards domain, its a few characters longer...also easy to remember but not as good as the card domain and the word before cards doesn't make much sence of the niche...the actual generic word is "total" An example would be totalcards.com.... I have tons of longtail keywords to target...all of the keywords end in card or cards...cards gets double the traffic so I will be targetting those longtail keywords. My niche is not comparable to 'student loans", etc...the niche has a bit of competition and the top rankers have been around since 2003-2004 and are PR5 websites. I'm going to use all of my ability to rank it and possibly beat these sites or even rank on page 1, but I want to ensure I did the most I can SEO wise, to choosing a great domain. The issue I have is that theres no turning back when I choose a domain, i'll be stuck with it and I will be optimizing the domain i'm choosing for a long long time and probably for years to come. I really want to ensure i've made the right decision with the domain name purchase. I'm definitely going to kick myself if I later find out that I could have received a little boost in the rankings with the cards domain over the card domain....possibly even a boost that could bring me from #2 to #1 for example.
