    First learn about what SEO really is. Read as much content as possible. Know what on-page and off-page SEO means.
    Then try to focus on on-page SEO and then move onto off-page SEO which comes handy and is very important but for best results try to improve your on-page SEO.
    On-page= Related to content on your site. Do proper keyword research, write quality content etc.
    Off-page= Do article submissions, blog directory submissions, link building and these will be good to give you a start.

    A good start would be reading Aron Walsh SeoBook or one of Bruce Clays seo books
