Looking forward to reading replys to this one!
in my experience your domain is very important (with google) but not as important as inbound links to your domain and releveant content in your site regards Mozzer
Learn the fundamentals. Two resources I strongly recommend are the first link in my signature and Chris Beasley's SEO Guide at http://www.websitepublisher.net/seo-guide/
Hi, It is one of the factor with help u to get rank on "football" keyword. one more thing, keyword which u r targeting is there in your domain name than u dont have to work hard for that keyword to get ranking only few back links and some content will work for you. but it is not necessary that your targeted keyword must be in domain name, you can get SERP for those keyword also. but it will take much time and much effort with compare to those keywords.
domain is one of the criterias for having good serp result but it's not the all. i think the most important one is getting backlinks true anchor text. if we think for your example, you need more and more backlinks with football text
domain name is not everything but certainly helps, I mean look at the name google.com for example yet they are on the 1st page for the keyphrase "search engine". If you can fine a name relevant to the keyphrases you want in the serps it is always 25% of the time saving you will need to get found, but there is stil alot of work to be done in optimizing your site for the other 75%
Believe me keyword specific domains do magic for Yahoo and MSN. But for Google, domain is just a factor to rank good. The major part is good relative back links.
I also have the name GSEO.net Stands for google search engine optimization but you have to know that it will still not show in the top pages unless you optimise it well. Try to see how many people are competing for that word that the domain name has and if its not competitive word and you can buy the domain name than go for it. But as for the word football, and if you had the name football.com I still think you would have quite alot of work to do to get it in top position.
