sweetfunny... Would there be a big difference between the anchor rotating on page load vs. on the life of the subdomain? I have a feeling it might be impossible to do the ladder.

Yes a big difference, by having a fixed anchor text it really reinforces the weight it provides. It's most definitely doable, you just need to store the subdomain URL's in a database table and the various anchors in another and associate them. This way when example.t35.com gets loaded the associated anchor gets loaded also.

It will just need a line of php code in your subdomains footer.

    Links:

    Total (%)
    Avg. 1.8 (16 pgs)
    PR0 3 (18.8%)
    PR1 5 (31.3%)
    PR2 4 (25.0%)
    PR3 2 (12.5%)
    PR4 1 (6.3%)
    PR5 1 (6.3%)
    PR6 0 (0.0%)
    PR7 0 (0.0%)
    PR8 0 (0.0%)
    PR9 0 (0.0%)
    PR10 0 (0.0%)

The single PR5 link is backlinked - thebackcountry.com
So is the single PR4 link
Of the 2 PR3 links 1 is backlinked
Of the 3 PR2 links 2 are backlinked
Of the 5 PR1 links 3 are backlinked

In 10 years you don't seem to have much in the way of quality links in the eyes of google

I'm not sure why google only shows such a small percentage of our back links. A quick search for 't35 hosting' (which I was searching for because I still can't figure out why we don't rank for our own site name), will show you tons of sites (PR4,5, etc..) that link to us. Yahoo shows a lot more of our quality backlinks then google does. I'm not sure why.

Not to mention that we have several of our own PR5 and PR6 sites that link back to t35.com (ie: all the sites in my signature).

Nope.. we have a footer link (hosted by t35) on free hosting member pages. That link is on over 5,500,000 pages. Yahoo seems to treat them better then google apparently since we are top 10 for all of our keywords on yahoo.

Your company name according to google is T35, and not T35 Hosting.

PM if you want SEO consulting.

    Thanks

Pay for this? It's on our member pages. It's a pretty standard practice in free hosting (the 'hosted by ____' footer links). We also sell the footer text links and everyone we have sold it too have seen an increase in SEO.

microtekblue ... Not sure why google has the site name wrong.

Here's another puzzle for all the guru's out there. I don't know if google just hates me.. but our brand new site went from being front page on all keywords, to almost un-listed as soon as we bought it as well. The url is freehostingdirectory.com ... I'm not sure what's going on, but even that isn't being listed in google anymore? Could it be the IP block i'm on?

I would say the fairly obvious problem is all the illegal, spammy content being hosted on your site...
i didn't dare click into the links for fear of being bombed with spyware... but when I did the site:t35.com in yahoo i see "how to make amphetamine" "ZSCompare Pro 3.0 MacOSX Full Download ", a ton of pill sites, etc etc...
actually now that i think about it, i think i get spam directing me to sites on your network....

i would clean out the garbage, and submit a re-consideration request to google

i bet if you remove the link to t35.com from your other sites, they will see a huge jump up in google.

We delete abuse/illegal content regularly. In fact, we delete hundreds of accounts per day. The problem is that with 500,000+ accounts (and 500 new ones each day), it's hard to clean up all of that content. So our policy is to police the top 10,000 sites (by traffic). The spammy sites that are still around are there because they don't get any traffic. As far as back links from member pages.. it's a standard practice and other sites that do it seem to rank well. For example, check out one of our competitiors member page:

    http://music.50megs.com/

Their header links contain: "Free Web Site - Free Web Space and Site Hosting - Web Hosting - Internet Store and Ecommerce Solution Provider - High Speed Internet"

and they seem to be ranking well for those keywords.

Just out of interest - do any of the sites which use your free hosting get good rankings in Google, or just Yahoo?

Just by doing the link:domain.com command in Google, the limited results that do show up, bring illegal porn site - I daren't click, I'm not interested in child porn and I doubt you enjoy having your name associated with it, either.

IMHO, it isn't SEO services you need, it's genuine people to moderate your accounts - that's what you really need. Otherwise you'll be completely buried by Google by the end of the year. (And most probably, Google won't be the only one digging the hole)

Yes, most sites that use the free hosting rank well on Google. As far as site content, like I said before, we are only able to police the top 10,000 sites by traffic, so the ones you are seeing are the ones that don't get any traffic at all. It would be hard to manually police all 6,000,000+ pages.

I'm not sure if google would penalize us any further. It was a one-shot deal that landed us from top 10 to #86-90 (for 'free web hosting'). We've stayed in that range for years now.

If you are doing reciprocal linking then check out that it should not be with C grade sites, or ban sites, or those sites are with broken links. So many reciprocal link would also be the main cause for this. Secondly if you have done any black hat trick on your site in past then remove all that and wait until google update or visit your website again.

I have never done any black hat SEO (or any SEO for that matter!) so that shouldn't be an issue.
