SEO/ Google search rank vs competitors question

    Hello.
    I have 3 questions

    1. How come google search controle says that my average ranking is 16.5 even tho I cant see my website anywhere in the search result? if clicking country and the country my website is focused on, it says that the average rank is 4.1 but yet I cant see it in sesarch results. I have tried from 10+ devices(friends, families) phones/tablets and computers. Could someone please explain this to me?

I have searched site:mydomain.com which shows links to my website. does doing this count into the google search console? maybe thats whats making the ranks weird/wrong?

    2. My website does not have alot of text. Its not a blog or similar so I have a hard time understanding how to rank for specific keywords when i cant add them to the text as on blogs. I have added a meta tag and made a h1 with the best keyword, which I hide(good or bad idea?)

    3. Because of number 2^, I have focused alot on making the website fast loading for both PC and mobile devices. I have made a mobile version(100% responsive design) which is very good. I know that these things matters to SEO and the search rankning alghoritm.
There is a competitor website that has the same site-idea as me (along with others). It does only have a pc version (0% responsive) and its loading times is alot longer than mine. They also dont have any walls of text on page due to number 2 so i doubt they have better SEO when it comes to the keywords? This website ranks on first page on google for every keyword at the same time as mine does not even show up on ANY of all the pages. Why?

I hope that someone can help me understand this. I clearly understand that i need to improve my SEO but I dont really know how since it is not a "wall of text" website.

    1. My assumption, and this is merely an assumption, is that search results are being skewed as a result of geographically relevant results for some users that is pushing it higher. There are a lot of things at play here and keep in mind that those averages are just for all keyword/phrases search results. It is hard saying as there are a lot of factors that go into what is being returned to searchers, including the type of device they are on and where they live that won't match your own searches. Sounds like your site is mostly media, so it could also be that the average ranking is taking image results into consideration and you're just doing a normal Google search. Hard for me to guess.

    2. I'm trying to envision that your blog is some sort of site with lots of media/photography focus. If you don't have a lot of textual content, you can still search engine optimize the media through the use of relevant URLs, filenames, and alt tags.

    3. There are a lot of factors beyond just the content of the site that you're competing against.
    - Chances are they have optimized the URLs, the alt tags, and for any media they've uploaded, they've used relevant file names (per my recommendation above).
    - They may also have a lot of back links and authority just as a function of being on the web longer than you have.
    - If they have branded themselves on Facebook and other social networks, that can help.
    - They also probably have much more overall content and with more content available they also have more opportunity for any "link juice" they've earned from different sources to be passed around a greater number of links.
    - It is also possible that you're just not being patient enough to give time for Google to push your content up higher.
