I love the "SEO Companies" that say they can get me top SERPs in the Gaming niche when their own sites get about 5 visits per month. Always makes me smile when I see this. Most of the unsolicited emails I get from these companies I write back to asking how they would go about getting me top serps in this for highly competitive keywords when they haven't done so for themselves for lesser phrases. I have yet to get a response from any of them.
The best way to get number 1 on a keyword is to do it yourself Saves hiring a phony to try and do it as well as you learn along the way.
If a company claims they can put you on 1st page, ask them if they mean organic or PPC. I had a business contact me and said they would give me 2 months free. I gave them almost 2 months and they had the worst Adwords campaign going on. Half of these companies probably work out of a garage. If you're wondering, I decided to try them because it was free. I wanted to see if a business could actually deliver.
