Yes there is future hope for SEO. Follow White Hat Techniques, do not SPAM, build quality sites, and do things the right way or you will have no future with Google. But then again, maybe Google will stop once enough people start complaining and it does start hurting Google's bottom line..... Though they dabble in so much that I don't think they would think twice. See Google is this giant who wants it their way or no way, so follow their rules and prosper or go down in flames. So, when you are building new sites just be careful and do it right.
Without hope there is nothing which one can do.SEO has always been there to help get better results in SERPs and those who are doing spamming only blames the Google.
They hit EMDs for a while that were slightly overoptimized, so hopefully they'll tone back their aggressiveness and this will naturally lead to EMDs getting their natural boost again.

When the term quality websites comes it means that the site you are choosing is having good pr, doesn't have adult content, doesn't showing more ads.
