    Hey all...
I am looking for input regarding not whats IN my pages to SEO them... but rather the structure of the site as a whole.

    1. What pages are beneficial to have? (links.htm, sitemap.htm, index.htm)
    2. What directories are beneficial to have?
    3. I have heard of the method of using a .txt file in your root dir to advise robots, and now there are google sitemaps.... Are these make or break type things? Any feedback on using them?
    4. Regarding #1... does it matter if its HTML ot HTM or what?

    >>What pages are beneficial to have? (links.htm, sitemap.htm, index.htm)

You should have a sitemap so that all pages are accessible to the spiders in only 2 or 3 steps. The other pages you have only matter to your visitors.

    >>What directories are beneficial to have?

Whatever directories make sense for your visitors and information.

    >>I have heard of the method of using a .txt file in your root dir to advise robots, and now there are google sitemaps.... Are these make or break type things? Any feedback on using them?

You do not need either. Sitemaps seem useful if your site is large and new and relatively unindexed. A robots.txt file tells robots what NOT to look at. Certainly, neither are essential.

    >>Regarding #1... does it matter if its HTML ot HTM or what?

Makes no difference. Some people think HTML/HTM files give a slight edge over obvious dynamic files like PHP/ASP, but I've never seen that proven.
