    Here is my directory http://www.directorygold.com
It is SEO friendly, on the site details page, which are reachable by straight HTML
    links from the index page

Categories are added all the time. If the category you want isn't there when you submit the site, it will be when it is approved. If you want to suggest a category, suggest the appropriate one from DMOZ. Although at the moment I review sites a bit quicker than they do.

The answer to that is: I don't know. What's the difference and how do I check? I searched on Google (love them or hate them, you just can't ignore them), but the results weren't helpful.

The out.cgi script is sending 302 redirects:

    HTTP/1.1 302 Moved
    Date: xxx
    Server: Apache
    Location: http://xxx.xxx.xxx
    Connection: close
    Transfer-Encoding: chunked
    Content-Type: text/plain

For PR reasons, most folks prefer direct links. If you have to use redirects, I don't know which is preferred (301 or 302) ... I'm sure someone will chime in with the answer, though.

    Good luck!

As well as redirects, the script does use direct links, although most (well all I've spoken to about it) users don't see them. At least search engines have no trouble.
eg: for the site Pool Rules - Official BCA Rules, the link structure to the direct link goes as follows:
    index.shtml, 28_sports.shtml, 664_billiards.shtml, 553.shtml
The last is the site details page, reached by clicking on the Details link in the category listing of the site, and the site link on this page is straight HTML

Had you submitted a link, because I can't find it?

You did not say that a reciprocal link was required.

Oops, sorry about that. Truth is, I don't check reciprocal links. It's mostly there to ensure I get a few inbound links.

I am considering changing back from "requiring" reciprocal links to just asking for them. Certainly will do it if given good arguments for doing so. I am getting a lot of traffic through the recip links, which means the site is out there, which was my original intention. If anyone does add a recip link, one from a different domain
to the listed site would be my favourite.
