Directories aren't good for link building, it's outdated. Forum posting, blog commenting, and article submission are the ways to go. Link exchanges also work well.
I agree. I get most of the free directories from that site. The good thing bout directorycritic is that you can sort it by pagerank, name, and date when the directory was submitted. In that way, it would be easier for you to gather your resources
