    There's alot so called 'SEO-friendly' directories out on the web. But I don't think that you get more pagerank just becouse you write directory.com/cat/12 instead of directory.com/index.php?cat=12

    So whats the point??

    Latehorn, my experience is that if you have a low Pagerank (eg. google doesnt love you yet) it doesn't spider pages that are like page.php?id=123&name=abc. When you get a higher pr, and google shows you some love, it finally will.

    I have a site that has only one page (index.html) and all the subpages (1 million) are like this: index.html?a=123&b=234&c345. When the site was new, no links, pr=2, google only indexed the homepage. When I got some inbound links, and pr went up to 4, it started indexing the subpages (all of them :) ) That's just one observation, but I think that is what directory owners mean when they say SEOfriendly==> easy to follow links

    I was just looking at one of my sites which has a few PR4 pages internally and the rest PR3 and PR2

    A dynamic page for poll results is PR0 purely due to it being dynamic;

    /pollbooth.php?op=results&pollid=3

    The web started with static pages and while the search engines are totally geared up for dynamic pages the legacy remains. It also gives users more confidence.

    Besides that, SEO friendly means more than just that. It means direct links most of all. Some directories use redirects, which won't do you any good.

    4) themed pages
    5) link text is the site name, not the url
    6) javascript in own file
    7) css in own file
    8) use css to have minimal markup relative to actual content
    9) active management to ensure bad sites are weeded out

    This is really key. It's mindblowing how many directories won't have title tags or H1 tags for the specific category.

    I think it all started because there were a lot of "non-SEO Friendly" directories out there. :)
    This has been a sort of slogan for PHP Link Directory. In addition to the above, we also have a great email feature that allows you to create an email template, and then proceed to send link exchange requests in a systematic way (checks to make sure you don't send to the same person twice, just add url, title and site name and hit send). More recently, we added a feature that allows you to add a site first as you are emailing them, and then all they have to do it enter the place where they added a link, and the link is validated and permanently activated. So there are many ways a directory can be SEO friendly. :)

    You certainly don't get more pagerank from the seo-friendly directories. Pagerank would be passed as would normally be. However, what it means is that you get good incoming links which are search engine (robots/crawlers) friendly so that they (bots) do not get stuck up with dynamic variables and are able to easily follow the link from the directory to your site

    The main reason is that Google doesn't spider dynamic links as much since it causes some servers to crash, therefore less spidering and less seo friendly.
