So what is your thoughts on wordpress being a good platform for SEO? I have been reading articles today and it appears to be a really good platform for it. I just wanted to post here and get others thoughts.

    Thanks

WordPress has some of the best SEO integrated features.

Combine it with some additional SEO plugins and you are better off than with any custom made html website!

With right pluggins it really works well, and search engines like WP sites. I use a number of different themes for different types of sites so its worth making sure the theme will work with the right pluggin, for blog/news sites change your permalink setting to /%category%/%postname%/ to get better indexing.

    Kind Regards

Wordpress is almost out of the box SEO ready. You only have to set permalinks lik GX8 mentioned and few plugins. I use All in one SEO for Titles, description, keywords... and Simple Sitemap XML. There is tons of other usefull plugins, but I like to keep it simple.

The great thing about WP is that it is easy to target lots of keywords.
The very first thing you should do after installing your WP site is to change the permalinks settings - so that the title of each page and post gets added as aprt of the url
To do this, log into your WP dashboard then click 'Settings' then 'Permalinks'
Click on the custom button and enter: /%postname%
(I actually use /%postname%-%post_id%.html - so that it looks like an html page and an extra ident is added to allow for multiple posts with the same titleI)
Then you need to install an SEO plugin as already suggested.
I use all in one seo: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/

Now each time you create a blog post, make sure your keyword is included in the title (and keep it short). This will create a page with a url like:
    http://yoursite.com/post-title
(and maybe an extra suffix number.html – if you chose the permalink code I use)

If you find this info helpful – clicking the star at the bottom left of my post here - will be appreciated. Thanks

Wordpress is the way to go. There are several seo plugins out there. But All-in-One SEO is the most popular for sure. And the handling of your site is easy as pie, too. You can make any type of site nowadays with wordpress. Meaning, it will still be a blog but it hasn't to look like one.

Very essential: One thing I notice about some bloggers using the All-In-One SEO Pack, don't take the time to customize all the features offered by the plug-in.

This is especially true of the head meta tab.
