SEO for Web Hosting Company website

I need to start doing some SEO for a web hosting company website. It's been a while since I've done any of this, but I know this is an incredibly competitive field (web hosting), so keyword competition is likely to be pretty fierce. Any tips on how to approach SEO for something as competitive as Web Hosting?

Companies in the Webhosting field are not successful because of SEO. Make your product stand out. Start and affiliate program. And build your business for your customers.

You will definitely need much time much money! And if you're not sure what you do, better pay some trusted SEO Company. Anyway, I don't think that you have to expect many sales only based on SEO,you have to market other ways or you'll have to wait an year or two for the first sales.

Had a potential client ask me about it. I guess I'll give away some of the info ;)

Since the actual cost of hosting is very close to zero, the profit margins are extremely high. Even in affiliate programs, unless you've got a proven to convert landing page, high affiliate revshare (ie know you customer lifetime value, and can afford to pay more then the first time cost), you're pretty much in the dark.

My suggestion is to pick a niche (ecommerce, non-profits etc.) and offer free hosting to the first 100 users for the first 3 months, no strings attached. (Of course, you grab their credit card info for the fourth month of hosting. Done with that, do a PR campaign. Use PRweb, free pr releases, and focus on that side of it.

    Hope this helps.

Playing at this level, you will need a team. Hire a pro SEO group. As the recession hits harder, the prices will drop even further. You don't have the time to learn the current concepts again.

Question. Where can you get 1,000 links and the proper SEO anchor text overnight so that you can play today with the existing Top 10.

In a recession, there is no time left to learn. How many DotComs went down because they had no clue about SEO?

Hire a team. Sales are more important than your trial and error learning. Just make sure that you look over their shoulders.

I will advise you have an affiliate program because it is the one that is helping webhosting company to make any sales.

Even if he install some affiliate program script and configure the payment processes, commission structure etc., that doesn't mean, that he will immediately get the biggest affiliates. He need to gain trust, to offer something exceptional and last, but not least to advertise he's affiliate program like mad (or like Hostgator). So having an affiliate program does not mean that you'll get instant sales. Work more on your promotional channels. Make a viral campaign or something. Find the best .blogspot blogs and offer them free hosting or domain. It's just an example ,but it will make you instantly famous if you do it right!
