I have been asked to help with a site that is using some flash. Another issue with the site is that each page size is over 100K almost 175K. What do I need to be concered with as far SEO goes? Does Flash really have that much of a negitive effect on site SEO? There are still alot of HTML content and text. Please advise.

If most of the content is in Flash, without HTML versions easily accessible, then you'll have a problem.

They are only using flash in the header bar. It is mainly in the logo and a little on the left . They also have a lot of images and text. At least 500 words of text.

Is there a way to make the search engines only see the html?

I don't see why you should be worried about SEO in this particular case. Looks like they are using Flash as a decoration. The problem with Flash is when you store content in swf or make Flash navigation - although search engines a capable to index Flash, swf movies still don't perform as well as the good old HTML.

If you use a text browser to view the page you'll see the same thing that the crawlers see. For Firefox, install this lynx browser https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/9482/author/ and then view your site.

Btw The crawlers are not going to download flash or images.

Based on what you've said it sounds like it's a non-issue. Just focus on the typical issues: internal link architecture, anchor text, code/content ratios, unique text, unique title/description/keyword tags and limit the amount of content/text in the static portions of your template.

And finally (before someone else says it. . . ) quality backlinks, backlinks backlinks. . .

If it is in .swf form, put an alt tags in it so that your flash presentation could have a little content in it.

Wow thanks for answering crushed_kid, is that really so simple?
Does it work for spiders understand at least for what my swf is about???

Another doubt: I was told by SEO´s to put the H1 tag in the first content of my website, but it happens to be an swf file, the menu file......so i need to know if it does sense to put an swf inside of this h1 tag?

How it can be done without having to put a real text in its place (changing flash for text) or denying the SEO tips??

Can I just put this embeded swf inside this h1 tag??

    I´m sorry for dumb questions...
