Hi all, I'm a newb here, and a newb to SEO despite my site being online some years. Before posting I've read quite a few threads here, and have been making some changes to my site based on that advice. I think I'm now at the point I'd like others to have a look and point me in the right direction. OK, the site I'd like advice on is www.vasectomy-information.com I've always ranked fairly well in Google, but think I'm sliding a bit. I've recently changed all the page headers to be enclosed in <H1></H1> tags, introduced better navigation in the form of html links, and on the index page I've tried to optimise the keywords and meta descriptions even though Google apparently doesn't use them. I do know there is some work to do on a lot of the pages, but in order to progress to making the site a lot more SEO friendly I think I need to know what the general faults are, and where the time I have available is most effectively spent. Many thanks.
Look into a URL Rewrite on the wordpress pages http://www.vasectomy-information.com/wordpress/?p=166 is an example that can be converted to .html Also, Keep posting fresh content and inter linking your pages, looks like you are doing a good job so far. You are doing a good job with in links, noticed a lot of inbounds from dir.yahoo.com Time Well Spent Look into social bookmarking del.icio.us technorati.com furl.net
NO NO DONT do the URL rewrite, all your pages are ranking using the ?p= ...if you change it these pages will all drop from SERPs like a brick in water because they will no longer exist.. you should have done the other way from the start but its too late to change
Thanks for the replies - good information to think about. Supplementary question re blogs. I already have a wordpress blog on another domain that the idea is I update with news, site updates and new research. Unfortunately I've been very lax and not updated it for a long time. When you suggest having a blog, is a blog on a separate domain, or a blog within the site itself the best way to go? I generate an RSS feed for site updates already. Thanks
