I might have the opportunity to work for a large firm that needs or wants to improve search results for certain keywords. The site on most pages already has a PR on all pages..between 6-8. I am sure I could do the job, but I am still nervous about this account. These are a few things on my checklist going into the job: 1. Fix Title tags on ALL pages to reflect the keywords 2. Fix meta tags on all pages 3. The home page has over 300,000 links pointing to the site.....the other pages do not...so i guess i would still do link building for each of the individual pages if you look at yahoo shopping...that is similar to the site that i am doing...one of the questions i had...was do i need to build links for each category as well as the main shopping site.....for example....just http://shopping.yahoo.com/ or would i need link building for http://shopping.yahoo.com/b:Clothing%2C%20Accessories%20%26%20Shoes:22658899;_ylt=AlBWH.5M4IQ6U8ntt9g2o1oEgFoB;_ylu=X3oDMTBhanZuZW9iBHNlYwNicm93c2U-, http://shopping.yahoo.com/b:Computers:21754470 and other categories as well?...... Any help and potential info would be great.....whether or not i get the account....it would be good information to know.... Thanks.....
You're on the right track. 1. Narrow down the keywords and get backlinks to specific pages. 2. Also analyze the link structure of the site itself for SEO friendliness. 3. Lastly, develop and submit sitemaps to both Google and Yahoo.
I just finished a similar project and like you was a little gun shy. One thing you have that I didn't is the fact that most of your links are going to the home page. I had to put 301 redirects in for all old pages (40k indexed) For your project I would start with a new homepage then a category landing page for each category. From the home page link to each landing page. From each landing page into the sub pages. Each sub page footer should link to home (domain name) and each category landing. After structure is clean, verify all titles/pagenames are unique. Use clean urls if possible Add deny to your robot.txt file for all boilerplate pages such as privacy pages, policy pages etc that are linked in footers, (keep google looking at content not policies) If your use templates for sub pages make sure to use as much unique content as possible add rss if relevant or use snippets from your own content. When this is all clean beef up links to category landing pages with good quality pr links with good (keyword) link text Build a custom 404 error page that includes a sitemap to category landing pages. or better a script to grab referrer strip off search term and build dynamic landing page for keyword.
Analyzed the keywords that you want to target in each page. Create the content using your targeted keywords. Build backlinks for index and inner page. Use keywords as anchor text.
For 'large' highle ranked site best efforts are done in generating 'thrilling' content becaue when any site get backlinks in thousands ... its not effort of sole SEO mostly. Though generating quality content can be said as part of SEO
